Re-Evaluating Therapeutic Options for the Prevention and Management of CINV
Program Description & Educational Objectives
In this activity, several experts discuss appropriate definitions of different types of CINV and theories behind its development, and offer instructive commentary on evaluating patient and chemotherapy-related risk factors for emesis in oncology settings. In addition, the faculty describe strategies for preventing CINV according to risk level, as well as optimal agent selection and dosing.
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
Differentiate between the various types of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), including anticipatory, acute-onset, and delayed-onset nausea/vomiting Perform an assessment of patients at risk for CINV and identify factors affecting the selection of management strategies, such as age, gender, and history of nausea/vomiting Test physician assumptions on the appropriate use of therapies for the management of CINV, including proper timing, dosing, and administration of agents such as 5-HT3 receptor antagonists, steroid approaches, and NK1-receptor antagonists, among others Demonstrate knowledge of recently published or presented efficacy findings on the potential role of modern antiemetic agents across the broad range of chemotherapy regimens associated with low, moderate, and high emetic risk
Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of oncologists, advanced practice oncology nurses and physician assistants, and other clinicians involved in managing CINV in oncology settings.
