Program Description & Educational Objectives
In this activity, an expert in ulcerative colitis discusses strategies to induce and maintain remission in two patient scenarios: A young man with a new diagnosis of mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis, and a middle-aged woman experiencing a flare-up of ulcerative colitis. In addition, the activity will address long-term adherence and managing the risk of colorectal cancer.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Implement measures to improve patient compliance with first-line therapies in UC
- Review current evidence on chemoprotective qualities of 5-ASA
- Evaluate new data on efficacy, tolerability, and persistence of first-line treatment options used in UC, with focus on improved remission rates
